Atriohm - Encephalopaticys

Review by Enlightened Ape on Psynews.org

I would have posted this earlier but I had to wait eons for it to arrive, oh well, all's well that ends well….

Atriohm is the product of two brothers, Leonid and Aleksandar Golcev who have been tearing an insane swathe of sonic carnage thru the psy-circuit since 2003. A familiar live project at festivals with many compilations under their belt.

Encephalopaticys is Vasko Velickovski who has since released ‘Psychotermic Meditation’ on Alkaloid back in 2006 (I urge you to have a listen, you will hear a remarkable progression). Since 2001 however he’d been DJing as Vaserman and around the same time as the forming of Atriohm is when Vaserman became Encephalopaticys.

What we're witnessing is two projects at the top of their game and to have them collaborate on an album together is a dream come true, but enough of that lets prepare ourselves….

Close to Nowhere - kicks off with a soup of murky atmospheres settling into a steady 4by4 then begins to pick up more textures as the track progresses further into the journey, then at about 3mins we really see what this trip holds in store for us. Great use of heavily staggered arpeggios, vocals and synths all combining to create a pretty awesome opener...

Error 11 - next up comes straight in with a great melody which keeps building then drifts off into other dark realms, which help to open this track out a little (that’s a good thing) By the time we get to 4mins we're hearing a pretty serious piece of sound manipulation, dropping into the closing takes us into a pretty chaotic scramble for order but don’t expect to find any.

Hybrid Synthesis - this track is very very deep and pulls some seriously haunting sounds out of the wazoo! Eeeextremely dark and organic with what sounds like Whale songs going off in the background but matching the twisted beat flawlessly and adding that air of spookiness to the ambience. Very organic sounding and great synth arrangement near the end, Atriohm doing what they do best.

Untouchable Circle - I love the way this track opens, reminds me of that creeking noise in GMS's Shrek, only much much darker. In this track Encephals brings out a controlled arsenal of sheer madness which he sets about releasing onto us in an nightmarish way, not too hot on the tempo change at 4mins but it does help steer the track into a different direction which then comes right back by altering the approach of the first 4mins into the last 4 leaving us with a ending of EPIC proportions with lots of howling and wailing noises! Just what could be inside that circle...?

Ukalen - the title track belongs to Atriohm, roll up your sleeves for it's time to go to work! Much more different from his previous 2 tracks, this one has more of a driven hook and sweeping synth work crisscrossing the deep bass. Quite a funky melody in it too, till it gives way to a random array of sheer atmosphere of madness.

Perpetual Stargazing - nicely leading, its Atriohm again, this is very danceable indeed with some truly demented sound experimentation going off. Pitch bends and weird vocals add to the sense of moving further down the vortex of a blackhole while sucking on a doomed star system along the way. And it tastes gooooood.

Stopance - weird name for a track...maybe its a mix between stop and dance? Whatever it means, it’s a fully charge mind tearing beast of a track. I really like this, creates the right amount of FUBAR for the listener till it backs off at 5mins and gives you a chance to run for your lives. However this beast is only toying with you and at 5.45 catches up with you with a low growl, Flinging you around for the next 2 and a half minutes. Class!

Dejgidi - building up sounds and layers is an art form and it’s stunningly displayed here. Coming up to 4mins is fucking mental. I swear to god. And what happens in the last four minutes is illegal. Seriously good psychedelic right here man. Atriohm must have tweaked something coz my levels went nuts, and they rarely distort, but this track is pure eeeevil, so maybe my speakers got possessed o_O

Upside Down - taking us into the final abyssal drop of this album is a truly absorbing and insane mindfuck of a track. Really doesn’t let up any of the power of the last 8 and gives you a glimpse of what you came to see. Pure dark forest psychedelic, surreal and unpredictable. Opens with a vocal sample which shifts in and out of a sweeping acidic beat, a perfect track to close this top offering from Parvati!

Really, buy this album, you won’t be disappointed.

Thanks Atriohm & Encephalopaticys you really made my march into summer a truly twisted one! Good work.

1. Starts off with a haunting pad with gentle eerie sounds growing into a big pyschedelic ball. A real fat yet deep kick drum comes in with haunting synths floating across. As the track progresses more sounds keep getting layered on top of another. The track gathers momentum through a series of beautiful melancholic sounds and teasing eerie sounds. Really deep atmospheres as the track progresses on smoothly. Very intelligent atmospheric music presented here with pristine production. What a juicy opener!

2. The track starts with a really fat and brooding bassline followed by a series of layered sounds and percussion. The track moves on with more strange sounds accompanying it. A nice synth is introduced shortly as the track progresses with more groove with sharp leads. Clearly seeing an evolution in Ence's music. More tweaking sounds are introduced with the same lead accompanying it. The track moves on smoothly with typical forest style basslines as it becomes a lil more groovy... only for the mood to be changed suddenly ,giving you the feeling that youve been slowly taken away ou knowing somewhere, without you knowing it. A killer one from Ence!

3. Starts off with a really deep bassline , giving you the exact same feeling as if you were stuck in a jungle and hearing strange sounds around you. Slowly more acid drenched short leads follow as the track moves on. Beautiful yet errie sounds are being presented here, in typical Atriohm fashion. The sounds get more atmospheric with some tribal percussion and sharp leads accompanying it. You get the feeling that youve progressed a little further into a jungle discovering more strange sounds. Like the title name suggests, the track gives u a feeling of organic sounds with futuristic undertones. Another atmospheric beauty...Two thumbs up!!!!

4. Starts off with a deep atmospheric pad with the basslines reminiscent of his earlier works. More beautiful fx follow with short bursts of leads. Intelligent layered patterns follow as the track progresses smoothly. Now we are transported to Ence's sonorities as the track gets more groovy. And then suddenly the mood changes as the bassline goes deeper with dripping and haunting sounds accompanying it. The track breaks down into a sample and then eases out slowly with more teasing sounds and a powerful lead. Quite familiar Ence sonorities here, but nevertheless a nice track none the less!!

5. The title track starts with a more strong driving balance followed by a plethora of atmospheric. In comes a shocking saw lead giving a short bust of power to the track. The track progresses with more resonating sounds. The bassline becomes more groovy. Quite like parvati style..followed by a series of well arranged and beautiful resonating synths. The atmospheres become more deep after a while with gentle leads and haunting sounds behidn them. The bassline then shifts a note higher and prgresses nicely with more leads. This track is more groovy yet brooding. Another winner!

6. The track starts off with floating pads and a low kickdrum. The track progresses with resonating sounds. Towards the middle the track picks up in pace with sharp leads and haunting sounds reminiscent of Atriohm sonorities. More acid drenched fx follows as the track becomes a little more twisted with weird atmospheric sounds. The track moves deeper with gentle intricate patterns. It then moves to the climax with more floating sounds and typical atriohm leads. Truly gives u the feeling of star gazing!! Excellent track!

7. The track starts off with a pumping bassline. It moves nicely with more uplifting leads. A short breakdown is introduced soon and the track moves forward. this track is less hectic as compared to the previous ones. A very strange period at around 5:00 as the bassline becomes quite funky and playful accompanied by weird sounds. Soon the bassline changes as it becomes deeper and the sounds more atmospheric. The mood changes quickly as the bassline changes again. Less chaotic than the previous tracks. Nice track.

8. Atriohm starts of the proceeding with usual forest sonoroties. The sounds are clear and throbbing with psychedelia. Once again very intelligently placed patterns as we re trasnported to a plethora of sounds. As the track progresses more layered sounds are presented with their usual teasing haunting synths. A nice uplifting lead is introduced as the track moves on nicely with more sounds. And the bassline changes very soon accompanied by a guitar like lead just twirling around to tease ones senses. More resonating powerful synths are introduced. Damn...another good track!

9. Ence ends this compilation with a track that starts with a deep groovy bassline. With gentle leads and resonating fx. The mood slowly changes as the sounds become more atmospheric and serious. Then a nice lead is introduced as the track progresses into an array of layered sounds. The bassline becomes groovy in a short while, once again reminiscent of Parvati sounds. The sounds become more hynotic as the track moves on. And so rightly, signs of this mother of a cd with this downbeat atmospheric beauty.

Overall
Well .. what to say bout this CD. Its just brilliant. Wonderful culmination of organic and new age sounds. The production is crystal clear and sounds sweet!! Atriohm and Ence have created an atmospheric masterpiece. Its just pure Intelligent atmospheric music. With this CD they have set new standards for organic/forest sounds. A notch quite high.

Coupled with a very psychedelic artwork, and top mastering from Xenomorph has made this the Strongest contender for the album of the year!

Don´t even think of missing this!!
